Jesus is the Word â€‹daily devotionals

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

(John 1:1 KJV)

In the beginning… the beginning of time, the beginning of the earth as we know it, the beginning of the creation… was the Word. Before we as human beings ever came to be, the Word who we know to be God the Son, existed with His Father. The eternal God without beginning Himself set everything into motion by His Word. Colossians 1:16b tells us that “all things were created through Him and for Him.” That is how powerful our God is. He spoke and things happened. Everything was created by His Word

This is how the story begins for us. In the first chapter of Genesis, we read how humans were created to live in a perfect world, brought into being by the will and Word of God.

But, it doesn’t take long for that Word to be challenged. In just chapter 3 of the account, the devil appears and questions the first woman by asking her, “Did God really say…?” And so it has been since the beginning of time, that we as humans are prone to question God’s Word, following the pattern of doubt introduced by Satan himself. When we question God’s Word, we question God Himself. The God who is powerful enough to bring everything into being with just a word, is powerful enough to preserve and uphold every jot and tittle of that word for us even today. John 1:14 says that Jesus Christ is the Word made flesh, “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” Because the Word IS God, we can trust it and we can trust Him.

“Dear Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ the Word made flesh, thank You for speaking to us so clearly and thoroughly as You reveal Yourself to us through Your Word, the Bible. Help us to trust and understand all that You speak to us through it. In Jesus’ Name, amen.”
